If you are looking to get t-shirts printed, there are many different methods. Understanding these methods and their advantages and disadvantages will allow you to choose the right printing method, so that your message or image stands out and lasts for a long time.

Screen Printing

This is the most commonly used method for printing t-shirts. Many people also indulge in amateur screen printing, but they will not be able to provide the professional quality. In this method of printing, the design is first transferred to a screen printing frame and then this frame is treated with an emulsion. Thereafter, the design is transferred onto the t-shirt by apply ink on the frame and pushing the colors out of the frame using a special squeegee.

The biggest advantages of this method are that it can produce high quality images and design and allow people to order in bulk. The downside of this method is that it can be expensive when used for small orders, producing the screen for small number of t-shirts is not feasible for a company. The cost of the printing also is dependent on the number of colors used in the design.

Heat Transfer Printing

This method of printing is very common today and allows full-color prints that are of high quality. It also allows you to customize designs. The disadvantage is that the prints will crack after about 25 washes. It also is not the most economical method of printing t-shirt and hence, best used for small volumes.

Heat transfer printing involves transferring the design onto a special paper. This paper is then placed on the t-shirt and a heat source is applied on it. This causes the design to transfer from the paper onto the t-shirt.

Digital t-shirt Printing

In digital t-shirt printing, the design is printed directly onto the t-shirt using a digital printer. As the image is mechanized, you can choose from a wide range of designs and does not require too much preparation time, like screen printing. Digital t-shirt printing is great for designs that have several colors and is best used for small orders. The printing method is not feasible for bulk orders. This said, the cost and speed of printing will depend largely on the type of printer that the company uses.

Now that you know the most commonly used methods of printing t-shirts, you will be able to make an informed decision when using the printing method.
